Manzanillo, Col. June 2025 .- As part of its expansion project, two new hybrid RTG (Rubber Tired Gantry) cranes arrived at the terminal on June 8th at CONTECON MANZANILLOThis state-of-the-art equipment is being incorporated into operations as part of Phase 3B of the company's growth plan, with the goal of strengthening its operational capacity and improving its environmental performance.
The new cranes incorporate advanced hybrid technology that combines high-efficiency diesel engines with lithium batteries, reducing both fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by more than 50%. This innovation represents a key step toward more sustainable port operations, aligned with the company's environmental commitments and international standards, such as the ISO 14064 Carbon Neutral certification it currently holds.
“ With this acquisition, we will be operating a total of 20 hybrid RTG cranes, and before the end of the year, we are committed to modernizing another 10 units. In this way, we consolidate one of the most advanced fleets in sustainable technology within the Mexican port system, reaffirming our leadership and commitment to innovation and the environment ,” said José Antonio Contreras, CEO of CONTECON MANZANILLO.
The incorporation of hybrid technology in these cranes is the result of studies conducted since 2023 by CONTECON's technical team, focused on identifying the best alternatives for modernizing its fleet. This innovation provides concrete benefits to the environment, improves operational efficiency, and contributes to optimizing maintenance costs.
The modernization of the terminal is part of its foreign trade expansion and the strengthening of port infrastructure with efficient, modern, and environmentally responsible solutions. This investment goes beyond operational aspects and reflects the responsibility assumed for the environment and for the development of both the port and the country.
