The 2022 London Games Festival is currently running and set to attract around 100,000 visitors.  New research from digital publisher Marmalade Game Studio reveals huge growth in the UK digital game sector.

There are around 44.32 million video game users in the UK (1), and new data(2) from Marmalade Game Studio, reveals 5.7 million adults alone claim to have only started playing in 2021, fuelled by the restrictions placed on people during the worst of the Covid-19 crisis. Marmalade Game Studio’s research shows that among British digital gamers, one in three (32%) say they spent more on downloads last year compared to 2020, and the increase is significant – a huge £341.8 million! Only 7% of adults who play digital games report spending less.

Between 1st and 10th April, to coincide with this year’s London Games Festival, Marmalade Game Studio is launching two special London themed offers for its Cluedo and Monopoly digital games, two of its most popular.

Cristina Mereuta, co-CEO at Marmalade Game Studio, said: “Both themes of these games have a strong London focus – Baker Street’s famous Sherlock Holmes, the classic London of Queen Victoria to Big Ben tokens.  During this year’s London Games Festival, we want to give people the chance to experience that London vibe from the late 1800’s.”

The UK digital games sector has been enjoying significant growth for many years now, and this was turbo-charged during the Coronavirus crisis.

“The UK video game market is the largest in Europe and the sixth biggest in the world, with an annual revenue of around £5.89 billion(1), and we expect it to continue to enjoy rapid growth.”

The London Games Festival is a major global celebration of video games and interactive entertainment. This year, it runs for 10 days from Friday 1 April to Sunday 10 April 2022 with events planned both in person and online. For further information please visit https://games.london/
