Disney Cruise Line Returns to New York, Debuts in Panama and Adds Langkawi: What's New for Fall 2027 and Spring 2028

By Virginia Viadas
Disney Cruise Line has released its fall 2027 and spring 2028 itineraries, and the headline is a homecoming: the line returns to New York City for the first time since 2023. Alongside it come two firsts — inaugural calls in Panama and a new Malaysian port for the Singapore-based Disney Adventure. Select Castaway Club members can book from August 31, 2026; general public booking opens September 8, 2026 at disneycruise.com.
Here is the short version for anyone deciding where to sail: New York and New England for fall colour, San Juan for Southern Caribbean island-hopping, Port Canaveral for short family getaways, San Diego for the Mexican Riviera, and Singapore for Southeast Asia.
Five things to know
- The Disney Wish sails from New York City in late September 2027, after its inaugural European season, on seven special four- to seven-night voyages.
- New England and Atlantic Canada return for the first time in nearly four years, with calls at Boston, St. John and Halifax.
- Two Panama Canal transits aboard the Disney Magic, with maiden calls at Fuerte Amador (Panama City) and Colón.
- Three Wish-class ships based at Port Canaveral from November 2027, including the Disney Destiny's first-ever homeport season there.
- The Disney Adventure adds Langkawi, Malaysia on selected sailings from Singapore.
New York, Bermuda and the fall foliage run
The Disney Wish will operate seven special departures from Manhattan. Five of them call at Bermuda's pink-sand beaches, and three extend that visit by a full extra day — enough time to actually see the island rather than sprint through a port day.
If you're flying in ahead of embarkation, the city itself is worth two or three days first; the tourism board's own guide to exploring Manhattan like a local is a sensible starting point, since the cruise terminals sit minutes from midtown.
Later in the season, the same ship heads north to Boston (Massachusetts), St. John (New Brunswick) and Halifax (Nova Scotia) at peak autumn colour — one of the few ways to see New England foliage from the water.
Southern Caribbean out of San Juan
San Juan gets a bigger role in this deployment. The Disney Wish sails from New York to Puerto Rico on a five-night voyage with a Bermuda call, then departs San Juan on a seven-night Southern Caribbean cruise visiting Aruba, St. Maarten, Bonaire and Dominica, before repositioning to Port Canaveral on a four-night sailing to Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
The Disney Fantasy adds more San Juan departures: a seven-night Southern Caribbean and a five-night Eastern Caribbean in December 2027, plus two seven-night Southern Caribbean sailings in late April and May 2028 calling at Curaçao, Bonaire, Barbados and Antigua.
Private island days remain the commercial engine of family cruising — a model the industry scaled up after Royal Caribbean rebuilt CocoCay as a full-day attraction, and one Disney now runs across two Bahamian destinations.
Two 14-night Panama Canal crossings
This is the most distinctive item on the calendar. The Disney Magic will transit the Panama Canal twice:
- November 2027: San Diego to Galveston, 14 nights eastbound, with a maiden call at Fuerte Amador (Panama City).
- March 2028: Galveston to San Diego, 14 nights westbound, with a maiden call at Colón, the canal's Caribbean gateway.
Repositioning voyages trade port density for sea days, which suits travellers who came for the ship's entertainment and dining as much as for the destinations.
California, Mexico and Texas
Two ships operate from San Diego through early November 2027 — the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder — on three- to seven-night Baja California and Mexican Riviera itineraries.
The Disney Wonder stays in San Diego for both the fall 2027 and spring 2028 seasons, calling at Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico and at Catalina Island, California. After its canal transit, the Disney Magic operates four- to seven-night sailings from Galveston, Texas; some seven-night Bahamian itineraries from Galveston include both Disney Lookout Cay and Disney Castaway Cay.
Florida: three Wish-class ships at Port Canaveral
From November 2027, Port Canaveral hosts three Wish-class ships within reach of Walt Disney World Resort.
- Disney Destiny: first season homeported at Port Canaveral, on three- to seven-night Bahamian and Western Caribbean sailings, after opening the fall 2027 season at Fort Lauderdale.
- Disney Wish: three- and four-night Bahamian cruises calling at both Disney island destinations.
- Disney Treasure: seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries with calls at Tortola and Falmouth, Jamaica, plus an eight-night Eastern Caribbean and a six-night Bahamian with two Castaway Cay stops.
- Disney Dream: three- and four-night Bahamian sailings before repositioning to Fort Lauderdale in November 2027.
- Disney Fantasy: Port Canaveral from September to November 2027, then Fort Lauderdale — including the ship's first Bermuda sailing, an eight-night voyage that also visits both Disney islands in The Bahamas.
Southeast Asia: Langkawi joins the map
The Disney Adventure continues sailing from Singapore with new three- and four-night itineraries from September to December 2027. Separately, selected voyages between December 31, 2026 and May 2027 add a new port of call: Langkawi, Malaysia, giving guests access to the island's rainforest and coastline on shore excursions.
Halloween and holiday sailings return
Halloween on the High Seas begins in September 2027, with characters in costume, deck parties and trick-or-treating on board. Very Merrytime cruises return in November and December 2027 with tree lighting, seasonal menus and visits from Santa Claus.

The market context behind the expansion
The timing tracks a sector at record strength. According to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) State of the Cruise Industry 2026 report, global cruise passenger volume hit an all-time high of 37.2 million in 2025. The same report found that nearly 90% of surveyed passengers intend to sail again, 31% were first-time cruisers, about one-third of guests are under 40, and roughly one-third of sailings are multigenerational trips. CLIA has revised its long-term forecast upward to 42 million passengers by 2028 — precisely the horizon these itineraries cover. Regionally, the Caribbean added more than 1.25 million cruise visitors in 2025 compared with 2024, which explains why so much of this deployment is built around San Juan, Fort Lauderdale and Port Canaveral. Five practical notes before you book
- Match the homeport to your flight, not the brochure. For readers in Singapore and Southeast Asia, the Disney Adventure's short Singapore sailings remove long-haul cost entirely.
- If Bermuda is the draw, look for the three extended calls. The extra day changes what you can realistically do ashore.
- Holiday sailings sell first. Very Merrytime dates and December departures typically close out earliest.
- Consider a repositioning voyage if the ship experience matters more than port count — 14 nights buys a lot of sea days.
- Check entry requirements port by port. Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Barbados and Bermuda apply different rules depending on your passport.
